How to get closer to God in a proper way (not in order);

• Prayer - cry, scream, yell, beg. Any concerns, fear, hate, leave it at Gods feet. This pain can discourage your faith if you sit in it/Do this MULTIPLE times a day, we often pray once or twice and then wonder why we're far. It's like texting your best friend once or twice a day and then ignoring them. Which I wouldn't complain about personally but you always hate when it happens to you.
• Read the Bible - yes, it sucks as a thought. But the good news is, you can start with any chapter. If that makes you nervous, look up the shorter books. Or you can read a few random paragraphs from a random page, as it's better than not reading at all. There's also multiple translations. My favorite is New King James, but read a Bible online and see which translation you like, you can switch between translations easily!
• Research Saints - In Orthodox and Catholicism you get a Patron Saint, which is awesome. Even if you are Protestant, you should look into Saints. They've done amazing things because of their faith. One that helps me a lot personally, is Saint Bernadette.
• Abandon sin - sin makes you father from God, and it sucks. Anything you do daily, fast from it. Ask for guidance to not desire it or be tempted. You will start to feel closer.
• Gospel music - I do not like most gospel music, they sound like crap even though the glorifying God part is amazing and of course, they're way more talented than I could ever be as I have never released a song. I listen to Gregorian chants, etc. Stuff they'd play at a Catholic/Orthodox mass. There's a few Gospel songs that I keep close to my heart so I will make a playlist.
• Appreciation - Write down your testimony, why you believe and what God has done for you. Don't be sad if you can't think of anything, it's really hard to tell sometimes what God does for you if you don't know Him very well.
• Write letters to God - write letters to God, just anything you want. I prefer to write to God instead of just a diary entry. I used to write down everything I wanted and asked God for, now I kind of don't care about them. So you can do something like that. RIP little brown kitten heels.
